Melanie Lucy Central New York Piano Teacher

Hi! I’m Melanie - or Ms. Lucy as my students call me.

Music has been an integral part of my life since I was young. Educated at The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and with over 25 years of experience teaching students of all ages ranging from kindergarten to adults, I’ve seen what an impact the beauty and art of music has on our lives.

My philosophy of teaching is quite simple! I don’t teach to groom the next Mozart or expect my students to major in music, though many have indeed gone on to pursue professional musical careers. I teach to spread the joy and beauty of music. I teach to keep the history and art of music alive.

Aptitudes for music and mathematics are highly inter-related. Research shows that piano lessons stimulate areas of the brain utilized while learning math and science. Piano lessons also help to improve memory, attention span, creativity, and concentration, all essential skills for students both in and outside of the classroom.

My students (and their parents) rave about the comfortable, nurturing environment and how prioritizing that personal connection between student and teacher makes all the difference in the learning process.

I began taking lessons when I was in 3rd grade and I now am attending school for music education. Taking piano lessons helped to inspire my love of music and gave me a great foundation of musical skills. If you are at all interested in music, either it be singing or playing other instruments, having piano skills will help you tremendously with your instrument. Ms. Lucy is so compassionate and there’s a reason I took lessons with her all that time. I forever cherish the time we spent together every week.”
— Maddie, Former Student | College Freshman: Music Major

Melanie Lucy helped me discover my passion for music at a young age and laid the foundation for all of my piano training. In our eight years together, I developed crucial skills at the keyboard that I still draw from today, in addition to exploring music theory, history, and composition. She challenged me to reach my fullest potential while always nurturing my love of music. That balance is rare to find in a music teacher, and I am so grateful for our time together.

A phenomenal teacher! I took piano lessons for 10 years with Ms. Lucy and continue to play to this day. It’s a lifelong skill that I’m so grateful for. Ms. Lucy has also been a great mentor and friend ever since. Would highly recommend to anyone!
— Jen R., Former Student

I had wanted to learn the piano for years and just kept putting it off. My 2019 intention for 2020 was to keep my promise to myself to learn. Melanie came highly recommended by several of my neighbors. I could not agree more! Her teaching style and overall personality have been just what I needed to keep actively engaging in my studies. Having been known to start and quit many hobbies along my life journey thus far, this is not an easy feat!

Piano Tuning with Ed The Tuner | Piano and Keyboard Lessons

Ed the Tuner!

“I can’t stress the importance of the maintenance of your piano. An out of tune piano is a piano that discourages a student from practicing. Not only does playing knock a piano out of tune, but so does the change of seasons! Fear not, tune it at least once a year, if not twice, to keep it singing. I’ll walk you through your simple maintenance routine to keep your piano and your student happy! An acoustic piano in good repair will allow small hands to learn the many nuances of playing a piece, that most keyboards can’t. If you’re in the market for a piano, I can help find the perfect one for you!”
